5000 riders were treated today (September 14th), to perfect weather for the 110km Amy's Gran Fondo at Lorne in Victoria, Australia.
UCI Eco Cyclo had a 5 riders Patrol, some competing at the front and some enjoying more of the occasion to take in the views, aid station hospitality and interact with the large numbers of spectators.
This is a very friendly event benefiting from fully closed roads. As per last year ride behaviour was overall excellent - the only blot being on the last 7km before the final climbs - too many riders hoping to save a few 10ths of a second, unloading their rubbish!...
We will propose a formal throw away area for next year at the bottom of this last climb.
Congratulations to qualifiers for the World Champs next year in Denmark:
Nick Gatland 4th (44-49) and 19th overall 2hr58
Richard Bjorkmann 13th (40-44) and 41st overall 2hr 59
Steven Podmore 39th (55-59) 3hr 28
and to those who were trying the event for the first time:
Robert Gahan-Hannibal 61st in (16-29) 3hr 44
This race has to have some of the most stunning scenery as seen from our team location staying at the surf club.
